Add your comments and builds to the Strongholds thread
PS i would be happy with 0.1 pounds being the smallest weight unit also (it not about metric or imperial) |

| the truth is that it wouldn't really require changing all of the files but it would probably be easier to add code that would let you optionally set weight in grams and just have it convert its way out into lbs and round up... so 1 herb would round up to a lb, but since it'd be a gram(for instance), you could carry another 2,299 herbs before you had 2 lbs.
however adding something like that to existing code would take a long time and end up being inconsistant in new and exciting ways... might also push us past our max number of global vars in objects code.
it'd be doable if someone had the time but it would end up being no more useful than the current system, prob. |

| It's not even necessary to use an SI unit for this. I believe the issue is mostly about the unrealistic values applied to certain items by the limitations of using lbs as the base unit. Personally I consider one gram to be too low a weight for most fresh herbs, but an ounce would be quite reasonable. Likewise for many other items like gems, slips of paper, and while I love the idea of a one pound pear, these and certain other foods should probably weigh a little less too.
Considering the ideas that people have suggested as workarounds to this effect, such as bags of holding with set weights, or ways of grouping 'light' items - one example of which already exists in the game in the form of blacksmith material balls - it seems that there is indeed a group of players who desire this change. I'd suggest that whether a specific player considers it important or not depends greatly on what guild(s) they tend to play, as some guilds rely on inventory-clogging items such as gems and herbs, while others do not.
